Spoiler JV Game Updates

Spoiler Hockey Banquet

By Jeff Nold 04/22/2013, 11:30am CDT

The 2012-2013 Spoiler Hockey Banquet will be held Tuesday, April 23rd at Century Elementary School in Grafton.

There will be a Players/Coaches TEAM Meal (Bring your own drink) provided by the Smokehouse for the Pizza Sales.

At 6:00, All Family members are invited to the "Awards" portion of the banquet, featuring keynote Speaker Scott Petersen.

Following the banquet, there will be a "Players Only" Meeting for ALL players intending on trying out for the 2013-2014 Spoiler Hockey team. This meeting is MANDATORY!!

With injuries and other factors adding up, the Spoilers JV was forced to shuffle around their lineup in the last game of the season, and came close to stealing one from GFRR. However, 4 Power Play goals by the Riders would carry them to a 5-3 victory.

GFRR got on the board first at the 4:06 mark of the first period. Spoilers would respond with goals from Jordan Keeley and Abe Hankey, with assists going to Brandon Ferguson, Brandon Osowski on Keeley goal, and Noah Zimmerman on the Hankey goal. (Hankey's was off of a face off, so Noah received 10 extra bonus "XP" points for winning a draw!!)

However, the Spoilers would get into penalty trouble in the 2nd, and GFRR would capitalize with two PP goals to take the lead. A short handed goal by Brandon Ferguson would tie the game up at 3. Then,  a bone headed move by Coach Jeff Nold would get the Spoilers whistled for "Too Many Men" on the ice, as a miscommunication sent two Left Wingers out. (STILL KICKING MYSELF!) The Riders would take the lead for good on the ensuing PP with just over a minute remaining in the 2nd.

In the third, the Spoilers would give up a goal in trying to make a comeback, but it just wasn't meant to be, as the Riders skated to a 5-3 win and 2nd  place behind the undefeated Fargo Davies Eagles in JV Cup standings.

Justin Offutt was stellar in net, stopping 31 of the 36 shots he faced. Up next for the Spoilers JV: WORKING HARD AND GETTING READY FOR NEXT SEASON!!

Also, special thanks to senior Erica Sevigny for all she does! This was the last game for her, and we really appreciate ALL the hard work she has shown for two years! Erica will be doing the stats for the Varsity program as they head into the post season! THANKS ERICA!!

Davies Wins Big

Davies Prevails in JV Cup Standings

Using a strong team game, the Fargo Davies Eagles finished off their perfect run through the EDC in pounding the Spoilers JV 10-0. The Spoilers JV competed for a period, finding themselves down 2-0 after 1. However, key breakdowns in the Defensive Zone would be taken advantage of by Davies, as they pounded out 8 goals over the last two periods.

Up Next, the Spoilers JV last game versus the team who took 2nd to Davies, the Grand Forks Red River Rough Riders.

Green Wave Swallows Spoilers

By Jeff Nold 02/06/2013, 7:30am CST

Swept Away By Green Wave

Spoilers JV started their last week of the season with an absolute stink bomb as the Green Wave rolled over the Spoilers, fairly handily, in a 5-1 victory. Lone highlights for the Spoilers JV was goaltender Justin Offutt who was able to turn away 31 shots. Many of these chances, were point blank, as the players in front of Mr. O were not doing much to help him out, and Justin gave the Spoilers a chance to hang around being down only 2-0 after 2. (Both goals were scored on Power Plays, as the Spoilers JV was not moving real well and were forced to take lazy, terrible penalties.)

However, the Wave would tack on 3 third period goals to blow the game wide open.

The rough stretch for the Spoilers only gets tougher, as they welcome in the undefeated JV Juggernaut that is Fargo Davies, who dealt the Spoilers their worst loss of the season, a 9-3 drubbing in Fargo earlier this season.

Let's hope the Spoilers remember the name on the front of their jersey for this game!!

Spoilers Double Up South

By Jeff Nold 01/30/2013, 2:30pm CST

Charlie Thompson "True-Natural Hat Trick" Leads the Way

In one of the rarest things you will see in hockey, Charlie Thompson was able to pull off the "True-Natural Hat Trick" in the First Period. (Scholars have debated this...but a Natural Hat Trick occurrs when one player scores 3 straight goals uninterrupted by any other scoring. However, for it to be a "True," all 3 goals must be in the same period...At least that's how I see it!!) Anyways, Jordan Keeley would score the eventual game winner in the 2nd to put the Spoilers up 4-0. Goals from Carter Arendt and Brandon Ferguson kept South from coming back after they clawed to within 5-3.

The JV game with East Grand Forks scheduled for Thursday has been moved to Monday, Feb. 4th, at 7:00 P.M. in the EGF Civic Center.

The reason for the change, is EGF has a make up date scheduled Thursday!

GFC Gets Payback

By Jeff Nold 01/25/2013, 11:45am CST

GFC scores 3 to start Third for Victory

GFC Knights JV shut down what had been a hot Spoiler JV team on Thursday night by pounding home 5 goals. GFC jumped up early with two goals to take a 2-0 lead heading to intermission.

The Spoilers, AGAIN, improved their play in the 2nd and dominated the period, to tie the game up at 2 heading to the 3rd.

However, GFC would strike 3 times in the first 5 minutes to jump up 5-2. GPR would claw back with a goal, but could not find the two they needed. Up next, a home dance with the Bruins of South/Shanley.

GPR JV Rolls FNH

By Jeff Nold 01/22/2013, 12:15pm CST

Spoilers JV On A Roll

Using 4 lines and a ton of team play, the Spoilers pounded Fargo North on Friday night to the tune of 7-1. Earlier in the season, Fargo North beat the Spoilers 4-1, with the only Spoilers goal being by Levi Cudmore, in Grafton.

Tables turned early, as Paul Behm found the net for a 1-0 lead. Noah Zimmerman would score to put the Spoilers up 2-0 after 1 period of play. Two minutes into the Second, Abe hankey would snipe a shot in for a 3-0 lead. FNH would respond two minutes later, cutting the lead to 3-1.

However, Brandon Osowski would put the Mo back in Spoiler Country to make it 4-1. Behm would add his 2nd, with just :01 remaining in the 2nd, for the back breaking 5th goal.

The 3rd period saw Brandon Ferguson get a goal to push the lead up to 5 and Zach "Meatball" Gaarder would score to get the running time into effect.

Spoilers limited FNH to just 1 shot in the 3rd period.

Spoilers Down West Fargo

By Jeff Nold 01/18/2013, 7:45am CST

Maroon Line Strikes Again

The Spoilers JV found a way to get back at West Fargo for an earlier season tie, by pounding home 6 goals en route to a 6-3 victory over the Packers.

The Spoilers, ONCE AGAIN, found themselves down a goal, after taking an early penalty. However, the Spoilers would score the next 4 goals, before WF would cut the lead to 4-2.

The Spoilers would pump home two more in the third, to put the Packers on ice. Ryan Lessard had a pair of goals, as did Carter Arendt. (Though Jordan Keeley should've been credited with one of them, because it bounced off his shin and into the net...but Carter is refusing to give up the goal, which he SHOULD do, because D-men don't get to score that often!!) Nick Lindgren and Abe Hankey also scored.

SPOILER JV GAME TIMES FOR SCRIMMAGE FEST

Both Spoiler JV games will be played in the North arena in Roseau at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
