Hunter Bandt Named Tournament MVP

A fast and ferocious start propelled the Spoilers JV on Friday night, and a quick first period on Saturday finished off a nice weekend for the Spoilers JV as they hosted and won the Ronnie Fellman tournament here in Grafton.

On Friday night, Minot struck first at the 2:28 mark for a 1-0 lead. 2 Minutes later, Paul Behm would answer on a nice one timer off of a great feed from Ryan Lessard to tie the game up. Charlie Thompson would put the Spoilers ahead for the rest of the weekend 4 minutes later and end the scoring in the first period. The Spoilers were flying high and moving fast, and that pace carried into the second period. The second period saw an eruption of goals, as Abe Hankey (Who had a nice 4 point weekend) got the scoring started 51 seconds in. Abe answered with another goal on his next shift, to push the lead to 4-1, this one on the Power Play on sweet feed out of the corner from linemate Nick Lindgren and Defenseman Carter Arendt. Ryan Lessard would put one home on a nice pass from Zach Gaarder (A.k.a. "MEATBALL") to stretch the lead out. Charlie Thompson would strike on the PP, followed by Lessard again, and a Turd Ferguson PP goal to give the Spoilers an 8-1 lead heading to the third.

In the title game, Ryan Lessard struck first giving the Spoilers a 1-0 lead just 1:43 into the contest. Thompson would add his 3rd goal of the weekend 6 minutes later to push the contest to 2-0. Unassisted goals just 30 seconds apart, by Jordan Keeley and Carter Arendt (his first high school goal) would blow the game open to a 4-0 lead after 1.

However, Mayport was feisty and would not allow another Spoiler goal til just under 2 minutes remaining in the game, when Brandon Osowski sniped home a wrister to finish off the weekend.

Hunter Bandt stopped all 23 shots including some spectacular ones, and thusly earning himself the MVP of the tournament.

Andrew "Brummonator 2: Brummondgement Day" Brummond would be named to the All Tournament team as would Zach "Meatball" Gaarder.

A good weekend of hockey as the Spoilers look to the 2nd half of the season, which starts on Thursday with the Firebirds of Devils Lake coming to town.
