Overtime Thriller to Start Holiday Classic

The Warroad Warriors escaped a furious 3rd period rally by the Spoilers with a 5-4 win in Overtime.

Warroad built a lead on the strength of 2 Power Play goals, while the Spoilers were 0-2 on their opportunities.

Johnny Robideaux started the scoring just 1:12 into the game when a good cycle play resulted in a puck going in from behind the net. Chopper and Rehov were credited with assists.

THe next period and a half, belonged to Warroad, as the Spoilers stood around and watched Warroad build a 4-1 lead.

Robideaux was once again the spark, just 17 seconds into the third scoring from Chopper and Rehov to cut the lead to 2. Two minutes later, Brett Longtin took a long stretch pass from Ryan Woinarowicz and beat the Warroad tendy to make it a one goal game. Peter Hills would tie the game with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation on a feed from Jade Miller, giving the Spoilers a ton of momentum and putting Warroad on their heels.

The next 10 minutes and into overtime was back and forth good hockey. Spoilers were trailing in the shot department 21-14 heading to the third, and after the third, they were tied at 30 shots.

However, the Warriors taught the lesson AGAIN that you must play a full game, as they were able to bury an opportunity in Overtime to seal a victory.

Spoilers will faceoff with International Falls, MN tonight at 5:00 P.M. before closing out the Holiday tournament with the Osseo Orioles on Saturday at Noon.
